WesleyLife Hospice Leader Receives Key Distinction —

Hospice Leader Adds to Strong Credentials

WesleyLife’s Rohret is one of only a few nurses in Iowa with new certification

Des Moines(April 2010) - WesleyLife Hospice Care Executive Director Cyndi Rohret recently earned a key distinction in the hospice field as a Certified Hospice Nurse Administrator. This accreditation is reserved for those who demonstrate impeccable knowledge of the operational aspects of a hospice organization. Currently, only three other individuals in Iowa have received this professional recognition.

Rohret’s background includes 32 years in nursing, with 20 of those in the area of hospice care. In 2007, Rohret was selected by WesleyLife to launch its new hospice program. Since then, she has led WesleyLife Hospice Care through its growth into Central and South-Central Iowa.

Rohret felt honored to receive the new certification on March 23. “This means a lot because it shows the passion and commitment I have for my profession,” she said.

In addition to this new certification, Rohret is among a select group of Iowans serving as an Approved Educator for the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association. She has held this distinction now for 10 years and enjoys the opportunity to teach health professionals about end-of-life care.

As an Approved Educator, she serves as a resource in the hospice community in a variety of ways, including conducting orientation for employees new to hospice and palliative care, conducting review courses to begin the preparation for a certification exam, and/or providing presentations on updated hospice and palliative clinical practice for continuing education credits.

Serving others through hospice has been a perfect fit for Rohret, who expects to continue serving in this ministry for a long time to come.

“Hospice is more of a vocation than a career, Rohret said. “The patients I have cared for have given me so much more than I could ever hope to give them. They have taught me invaluable lessons about living, loving and dying.”
