Wesley Meals On Wheels Receives Grant from D.M. Hunger Hike
Des Moines, Iowa – Wesley Meals on Wheels was presented a grant from the Des Moines Area Hunger Hike at their annual awards and recognition dinner on Monday, March 16th at Wesley United Methodist Church, 800 E. 12 St. in Des Moines.
Musical entertainment, food, the "Traveling Bowl" awards and grant checks from monies raised were presented. Wesley Meals on Wheels “hikers” Linda Loebach, Wesley Senior Nutrition Program Manager; Kelly Atkins, Meals Supervisor; and Meals on Wheels drivers Loretta Thomas and Donna Whaley were present to receive the award check and certificate of participation.
The Des Moines Area Hunger Hike meets annually at the State Capitol on the second Sunday of October. The goal is to increase community consciousness and concern about local and world-wide hunger and its root causes and to
raise funds to be used by non-profit agencies and programs to help alleviate the problem of hunger. All of the Wesley Meals on Wheels drivers, Wesley employees and even MOW clients helped by raising money for this event.
The $815 grant received through the Des Moines Area Hunger Hike will be used by the Wesley meal program to cover the food portion of the total meal cost for 400 meals to clients most in need.
