At Wesley Retirement Services, we are taking a fresh approach to residents dealing with memory loss. We are reinventing nursing care, where we see our function as service, not schedule. If a resident awakens in the middle of the night and wants to play checkers, a staff member joins them in a midnight game instead of attempting to usher them back to bed. Baths, meals, sleeping, activities — all are resident choices that create a lifestyle that is intimate, personal and comfortable.
Our décor consists of meaningful furnishings and items that jolt lifelong memories. Meal times are as they were at home — a family table with plenty of conversation about the day and memories shared over a wonderfully-prepared meal. Special areas are designed to feature items of particular interest to residents. It is amazing how thoroughly residents enjoying going to the “office” for an afternoon, or relax and smile while they rock “babies.” The game area offers those tried and true pleasures of days gone by, and provides hours of enjoyment.
Our planned activities are more than organized events to fill the day. They are moments that keep the mind active and bring back wonderful memories. Instead of a game of Bingo, residents enjoy events in the kitchen like baking apple pies. Gardening is an inspiring activity that encourages growth for both the gardener and the blooms. Each day holds pleasant events that stimulate and invigorate.
Those we care for in our family-like settings are involved in a community filled with respect, honor and dignity. It’s a bold transition that distinguishes us from the traditional nursing home. Our fresh new approach transforms institutionalization into personalization. |
