How do I make a donation?
Donations are welcome at the home office, 5508 NW 88th St, Suite 120, Johnston, IA 50131.
Contributions are welcome at any of our Wesley communities and program sites should you wish to deliver your donation in person.
Checks should be made payable to Wesley Retirement Services or your favorite Wesley community or program (depending on where and how you would like your donation to make an impact) and mailed to the individual communities.

What is the difference between the Good Samaritan/Good Shepherd Fund and the Good Samaritan/Good Shepherd Endowment Fund?
The Good Samaritan/Good Shepherd Fund utilizes dollars raised annually to support the needs of residents as they arise.
Good Samaritan/Good Shepherd Endowment funds are invested to produce future income, ensuring that Good Samaritan/Good Shepherd needs are adequately met. Ninety percent of the endowment’s income is used to fund current needs, while the remaining 10 percent is reinvested for the future.
Halcyon House, Heritage House, Park Centre and Wesley Acres refer to their charitable fund as The Good Samaritan Program.
The Village refers to their charitable fund as The Good Shepherd Program and Wesley Adult Day Services, Wesley At Home and Willowbrook Adult Day Services refer to their charitable fund as The Scholarship Program.
How are the Good Samaritan/Good Shepherd dollars used?
All funds are used for residents and participants within the community they are raised. Specific uses include helping persons who do not qualify for state or federal assistance, paying for medications, therapeutic services and other comfort items as well as covering the difference between Medicaid reimbursement and the actual cost of care.
Who supports the Good Samaritan/Good Shepherd Fund?
There are a wide variety of donors who generously underwrite the costs of residents and participants who have outlived their financial resources. Donors include residents, staff, family and friends within the community as well as corporate and foundation gifts.
How can I support the Good Samaritan/Good Shepherd Program?
Cash donations are always appreciated. There are additional gifting options that can provide significant tax benefits.
• Gifts of highly appreciated stock or property
• Naming Wesley as the beneficiary designation on a life insurance policy or investment
• Including Wesley in your will
• Purchase of a Wesley Retirement Services Charitable Gift Annuity
Your gift is tax-deductible (Wesley Retirement Services is an independent 501(C)(3) organization) and can be made throughout the year or during special fund drives, including the annual Good Samaritan/Good Shepherd campaign, employee-sponsored Good Samaritan and Good Shepherd fundraisers or by supporting the Angel Tree.

Scholarship Endowment funds are invested to produce future income, ensuring that those scholarship needs are adequately met. Ninety percent of the endowment’s income is used to fund current needs, while the remaining 10 percent is reinvested for the future.
How are the Scholarship dollars used?
Dollars raised for a special program are used only to support that program. Much like scholarship funds used in colleges, Wesley Scholarship Funds are applied to individual participants and clients according to their needs.
Who supports the Scholarship Fund?
There are a wide variety of donors who generously underwrite the costs of participants and clients who lack the financial resources necessary to cover the cost of their car. Donors are a mixture of participants, staff, family and friends within the community as well as corporate and foundation gifts.
May I make a contribution to a specific campaign at Wesley?
Yes, but please indicate how you would like your gift to be recognized. Some of our most popular campaigns include; Good Samaritan/Good Shepherd programs as well as our Scholarship programs. We recommend noting your wishes on the memo area of your check. We invite you to call us with your questions to discuss further details or to develop your own giving opportunity.
May I honor a loved one with my donation?
Yes, and what a wonderful way to do so! Please write the name of the individual to be honored in the memo portion of the check. Memorial gifts are a nice way to remember friends and family who have passed on and a gift in honor of a special occasion is the perfect gift for someone who has everything!
Will the family/person honored be notified?
Yes. We send a letter to the designated person and/or their family, which includes a list of names of those who have made a contribution, in honor or memory of a loved one. The donation amount will not be shared.
Do I need to supply the name and address of the person and/or family members to be notified?
We suggest that you always include that information so that we may send them the appropriate letter.
Can you make a donation online?
No, not yet; but you may print a pledge/gift form.
May I use a credit card for my donation?
Currently, we are unable to accept these donations. Please accept our apologies for this inconvenience.
May I make a contribution directly to a staff person?
No. Please don’t. All donations should be made to Wesley administrative offices at each of our communities and at the home office. Staff members are not allowed to accept compensation or tips from residents and/or their families. If you’d like to thank an outstanding staff person for their care we suggest making a gift in honor of their birthday or their Wesley anniversary.
Will I receive a thank you letter or receipt?
Yes. All contributions are recognized with a letter of appreciation that includes a receipt.
Do you require a minimum donation?
No. Wesley Retirement Services accepts and appreciates all gifts.
Do I need a form or contribution envelope in order to make a donation?
No. While we are happy to mail an envelope to you for this purpose, it is not required. Simply make out your donation check and mail it to Wesley Retirement Services, 5508 NW 88th St, Suite 120, Johnston, Iowa 50131. Be sure to indicate which community or program you wish to support with your gift.
